Move: A Unique Rocking Chair by Rossella Pugliatti

An Unparalleled Blend of Nature and Geometry

Move is a rocking armchair designed by Rossella Pugliatti that combines the organic shapes found in nature with the study of geometry. This innovative piece of furniture is not only aesthetically pleasing but also a testament to modern culture and the art of ebony.

Move stands out from other rocking chairs with its complex structure made up of 30 solid pieces of ash wood. The chair's design features a double curved and closed structure, with the first supporting the seat and backrest, and the second enabling movement. The connection between the two structures occurs at the lower part, where they touch at their greatest curving point. This critical point ensures stability and adds to the chair's unique beauty.

The use of numerical control cutters and aluminum die casting molds allowed for the precise carving of the ash wood pieces, ensuring structural integrity and load-bearing capabilities. The backrest and seat are made from fiberglass, while the padding consists of polyurethane and cold foam. The result is a rocking armchair that is not only visually stunning but also comfortable and durable.

Move's ergonomic seat design provides optimal comfort for relaxation and conversation. The polyurethane convex shape of the backrest, with variable density, supports the spinal column and helps relax the diaphragm. Whether enjoying a cup of coffee or engaging in a conversation, Move offers the perfect seating experience.

The development of Move began in May 2013 at Giorgetti SPA's Design Office in Meda and was completed in April 2014. The chair made its official debut at the International Milan Furniture Fair and has since gained popularity worldwide, with over 100 pieces sold.

Rossella Pugliatti's research for Move drew inspiration from Leonardo da Vinci's studies of nature, particularly the movements of natural disasters and his drawings of plants and trees. The designer aimed to capture the beauty of natural curves and incorporate them into the chair's design.

The design process for Move presented several challenges, including the control and development of the two curved shapes, which required 3D modeling. Additionally, ensuring the chair's structural stability under static and dynamic loads required advanced engineering and technology. The result is an ISO-certified armchair that combines artistry and functionality.

Move's exceptional design and craftsmanship have been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category. This award celebrates the chair's outstanding expertise, innovation, technical characteristics, and artistic skill. Move truly embodies excellence and evokes positive emotions, amazement, and wonder.
